2020 has been a long year and there are plenty of reasons to look forward to 2021. After a year that made most of us spend a substantial amount of time at our homes, we all feel the need to bring in more comfort and creativity to our living spaces, don’t we? So here are 10 trends and ideas to look forward to in 2021 for your home decoration and interior designing.
1. In harmony with nature
One of the most exciting prospects and examples for the upcoming 2021 are the innovative experiments of the industry and the designers to create unusual and new materials based on recycling, alternative technologies and a well-balanced approach between nature and technologies. The usage of natural materials like seagrass, bamboo or corn has already a strong niche and influence over the production of modern furniture elements and decor details.
Particularly popular this season is unpainted wood surfaces, stone textures, living plants, ceramics and wicker furniture.
Decorative elements and prints also gravitate to nature. Images of animals, birds, leaves and flowers are increasingly appearing in modern urban interiors. Vivid tropical motifs and an intense floral print, which are not going to leave the walls and decor elements in the current year, became the unconditional hit of 2020.

2. Multifunctional spaces
Since we had to spend a lot of time at home this year most of our daily activities turned out to be home based, be it work or education. As a result we had to reorient the utilization of our available home space. Thus, the emergence of some creative storage and design solutions is inevitable that might help dining rooms, living rooms and even bathrooms double up as home offices and workspaces.

3. Distant shores
We all have been yearning for an escape to the beaches, haven’t we?
As we long for tropical getaways, interiors inspired by distant shores offer a calm and relaxing living space to make a home a safe and inviting place to boost our energy levels by bringing home a Hawaiian landscape. Adding a contemporary edge to a classic floral design, the Distant Shores trend features tropical brights, subtle monotones and soft lemons.

4. Vintage
What goes around comes around; what was old is new again. So is also the case in interior designing. Antique, repurposed, salvaged and retro pieces all have their place in a vintage scheme. It’s the kind of look that needs layering, so take time to choose pieces that matches your personality and are loaded with charm. Maybe use some brass hardware, put down some vintage rugs or hang a crystal chandelier!

5. Ocean hues
Capturing relaxing poolsides and beach getaways, aqua and inky blues offer a calm, contemporary look. Varying from deep inky tones through to soft aquas, blue is the perfect color for creating a tranquil home.

6. Sustainable design
Climate change calls for an urgent need for developing solutions to wasted plastic. Interior design trends 2021 will determine a new age in developing sustainable design whether in furniture or fashion. New bioplastics materials, reused materials and low impact for the environment, will be an upcoming design trend. We are keeping an eye on them!

7. Statement pieces
You can make an item the centre of attraction of your room. It defines your personality and catches all the eyes. While it should stand out, it should not go out of proportion and come across as too dramatic.
A statement piece can be a piece of furniture, a mirror, a lamp, a mannequin and so on.

8. Art and craft
Vitalising interiors using art is an age-old practice. From wooden accessories to pleasing lights, from coloured glass tops to fringed chandeliers, your choice of art and craft pieces can make and break the ambience of your home or office.

9. Earthy grounded shades
One of the biggest colour trends of late, is earthy, muted ochre and terracotta tones found in the desert landscape. It's all about dulled-down shades that blend in with nature, creating a calm and grounded interior colour scheme.
Earthy tones provide a relaxing and nurturing contrast to the shiny, metallic finishes that are part and parcel of technology.
It's not just in tiles that this traditional tone is coming through; it's appearing in homewares such as dinner sets, vases, light fittings, furnishings and bedlinen.

10. Neutral colors
From recent trends, it is evident that many top Interior Designers are calling upon this palette as the new foundation to their work.
There’s always room for pops of colours but a a calm, neutral backdrop can always allow you to bring out some pretty bold elements into your design.
